TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME…

Who doesn’t enjoy a great baseball game? The home team, the fans, the food — hotdogs, nachos, peanuts, cracker jacks and beer! But I never realized how big a part of the experience the sights and smells of the food are, until tonight at the Rockies vs Dodgers game at Coors Field in Denver.

As we entered the stadium, my sister-in-law Jen mentioned the familiar smell of catsup. A few minutes later, my brother mentioned the distinct smell of popcorn. But since I couldn’t smell any of those distinctive ballgame treats, it was totally lost on me.

Even though I am creating new connections to food, tonight has proven that some life experiences will never measure up until my senses return. I don’t truly know that I will truly enjoy a baseball game the way I used to until my senses of smell and taste come back. I didn’t ever really eat all of the treats at a game, but just being able to enjoy the smells as a part of my experience was half the fun!

As I thought about tonight’s game, I wondered what other experiences will reveal a similar let down? I guess we will see as my journey continues.
