I had the absolute pleasure of dining at Atlanta's hottest reservation...Mujo! I've told everyone that would listen, it wasn't just amazing sushi, it was a full on experience from start to finish!

It began with the chic, but low key signage on the exterior of the space. If you didn't know what you were looking for, it could be easily missed, but this just adds to the specialness of the evening. Once the beautiful wooden door opens, you step into a dimly lit entrance that immediately sets the mood and vibe for your evening. You are warmly greeted by Katy Rees, Maître d’-extraordinaire who welcomed me by name and walked me over to the intimate, 6-seat bar area for a cocktail while I waited for my dinner companion.

Next up was a phenomenal Tea House Negroni made by Bartender Michael Satusky who not only made a mean cocktail, but explained how the Hojicha-infused Gin is made and let me inhale the essence of the tea leaves! The infused gin + the Compari and Sweet Vermouth, topped with a Lemon twist, was the perfect start to the evening ahead.

We were escorted into the intimate 15-seat sushi counter led by Chef J. Trent Harris. The vibe is cool, yet approachable...a setting where you feel comfortable engaging with your immediate neighbors or focusing on your own dining companions. The walls are dark, keeping with the intimate small space esthetic, but the counter is a light wood that keeps the focus on the beautifully prepared food that is placed upon it.

We opted for the tasting menu plus several amazing supplemental dishes. The experience began with a lovely sakizuke (similar to an amuse-bouche), before moving on to a series of small plates (Zensai) followed by the traditional nigiri sushi, which included aji, toro and uni. The sushi was served in the edomae style, which originated in Tokyo and involves curing the fish to deliver a more complex flavor profile.

We complemented the tasting menu with a phenomenal foie gras manaka that melted in your mouth and a kegani with the sweetest lobster I've enjoyed in a long time. We were tempted to add the caviar, but thought better of it given the copious bites we were going to enjoy.

We also enjoyed a perfectly designed beverage pairing that began with a beautiful Renaissance Blanc De Noirs champagne. and concluded with a Liaison Pinot Noir. Each beautifully complimented the course for which it was paired.

The meal ended with a lovely roasted sesame ice cream paired with green tea. To conclude the phenomenal experience we received a copy of the evening's menu and a sample of aromatic incense to savor the experience. Two and a half hours later I floated through the same wooden door back to reality savoring the evening and hoping I have the opportunity to enjoy it again soon!

Put Mujo on the top of your list of must-do experiences in Atlanta. You will not be disappointed!
