The sweet quest that began with my previous post (How Sweeeeet it is…) continued this past Saturday with a visit to Sweet Cheats. Its one of Atlanta’s newest dessert spots and their tagline is perfect, “…if you’re going to cheat, it better be worth it!”
Sweet Cheats serves cupcakes, cookies, brownines, scones, cruffles, coffee and more. But as a cupcake connoisseur, I had to check out their incredibly unique flavors. Now in the spirit of full disclosure, I must admit that I am an “investor” of sorts in this hidden GEM. In a need to expand their space last year, they initiated a Kickstarter campaign and I participated. So I can proudly say that I helped this wonderful little neighborhood hangout in Cabbagetown grow!
But I digress. Ah the cupcakes! So many delicious flavors to tempt me. Luckily I was having dinner with friends Saturday evening, so I ordered five: Velvety Red, Pumpkin Passion, White Chocolate Obsession, Chocolate Champagne, and Chai Latte. I also purchased two cruffles…think the perfect bite of cupcake on a stick. I assured myself that all six cupcakes and cruffles would make it to dinner, but alas, my weakness is Red Velvet so I had to “sample” it before dinner.

he verdict: the cupcakes were moist with a perfect balance of flavors. The Velvety Red was the perfect blend of cocoa and cream cheese and it had a perfect little chocolate center surprise! The Chai Latte had hints of cloves, cinnamon, and ginger (you may wonder how I know that…I could certainly “sense” the spiceness so I asked my friends for a little help identifying exactly what it was.
There was a bit more frosting than I like, but it certainly didn’t detract from these delicious desserts. At dinner, we cut each of the cupcakes into fourths so that we could try them all. Needless to say, there was not a single morsel left at the end of the evening.
If you live in Atlanta and you love cupcakes, I would highly recommend adding Sweet Cheats to your list. Great desserts, great coffee and a very cool intown coffee shop vibe that makes you want to sit awhile. Unless they are an Agave fan (which I am), few Atlantans venture over to Cabbagetown. I’d say that the addition of Sweet Cheats makes this hip side of town a new must see destination. You just can’t beat it!
As always…I am the Tasteless Gourmand!
