THE SWEET AROMA OF BACON!

There are few things in the world that smell as wonderful as cooking bacon. And it is a smell that I didn’t think I would ever enjoy again, but this evening as I was preparing dinner…there it was, the most delicious aroma ever!

I was roasting Brussel Sprouts in the oven with bacon for dinner. After setting the timer, I sat down to watch television. A short time later, I noticed the distinct smell of bacon. Not really trusting my nose, I went into the kitchen to check the progress. When I opened the oven, the most incredible smell hit me like a ton of bricks…sweet, sweet bacon! Can I say it was the highlight of my week? It was definitely the highlight!!!

One of my blog followers recently forwarded a great article on anosmia research and the things some sufferers are doing to try and recover their sense of smell (thanks Amy). One of the techniques involved actual smell exercises with certain aromas to stimulate the olfactory nerves. Since reading the article I have actually tried the exercises. Now I don’t know if today’s eureka moment is even remotely related to my efforts, but if there is even a slight chance, its well worth it!

So if you see me randomly smelling different ingredients, cheer me on. They say “exercise” is good for what ails you!
