TASTY EATS IN THE MILE HIGH CITY

So I just returned from visiting my brother and sister-in-law in Denver and what a great food expedition!
First you must know that my brother is an anthropologist with a penchant for sustainable agriculture…and has become quite the gardner (who would have thunk it)! He has a garden at home, participates in a CSA and is part of a group that started a community garden in Denver. Why is all of that important? Well I am not a gardner, but I can certainly enjoy fresh veggies and I had the opportunity to eat eggplant and cherry tomatoes from his garden. Though I couldn’t get the full effect of the flavors, it felt really good to have fresh food from a garden and there was a certain sweetness in the tomatoes that I don’t immediately recall from those I’ve purchased at the grocery store.
I also had the opportunity to check out a few of Denver’s Food Trucks at the Cherry Hill Farmer’s Market. Lots of great looking stuff and a very spicy breakfast burrito from the Chef Driven truck…beef chorizo, egg, potatoes, black beans, fire roasted hatch green chilies, sweet corn off the cob, onions, fresh salsa and guacamole! Even for someone with no tastebuds, this one had enough layers of flavor to tickle my salty, heat and umami…yummy!

The Biscuit Truck seemed to be pretty popular as well. Though I didn’t have a chance to check it out, by the length of the line, I’m guessing it is pretty tasty.

Later that day we had a food ole fashioned Shrimp Boil. Now my brother and his inlaws called it Frogmore Stew, but for my fellow Southerners, it was your basic, down home Shrimp Boil with shrimp, spicy sausage, potatoes, corn on the cob and lots of Old Bay.

The various textures in the dish and the kick of the Old Bay made this an especially enjoyable meal for me!
All in all, my trip to the Mile High City was a great culinary adventure. My brother’s goal was to stimulate my senses in to returning and I had a few exciting moments including actually getting a wonderful, though very brief whiff of fresh basil from the garden, my senses are still missing in action. Oh well, if I can continue to tantalize them like this trip did, I am confident that will not stay away for much longer.
Until next time…I am the Tasteless Gourmand!
